Snapshots of Thanksgiving- Day 10

Day 10:

20121110-201509.jpg
This evening I watched a friend from church start her new life as a wife. Her grandfather (a missionary to Thailand for many years) married them. Her twin brother (a talented trumpet player) played her processional. Her mother (a florist) decorated the church. It was gorgeous with all the shades of Fall and the couple looked deliriously happy.

I cried, but that isn’t surprising. I can get misty eyed during cartoon movies…

I am so thankful for new life.

The journey of marriage is most definitely the start of an adventure and a new life. A couple leaves their parents and single ways to become united as husband and wife. They have to submit to one another and learn to live with another person.

Parenthood comes along and brings with it a literal new life and the glorious, tedious new life of a mom or dad. In many ways a parent dies to their old nature and selfish habits (like peeing alone) to embrace the demands of children. It is humbling and at times painful, but beautiful.

I am most thankful for new life in Christ. I can’t imagine my life as a wife and mother without His strength and comfort.

Ok, I am getting misty again… Have a great night!

Snapshots of Thanksgiving- Day 9

Day 9:

That little lady in blue is my Gan (grandma). This was her at Easter surrounded by her 9 grandkids, grandson-in-law, and two great grandkids. She has been my confidant and friend my entire life and today is her birthday! I am truly grateful for my Gan and all she means to me.

Snapshots of Thanksgiving- Day 8

I’m a couple hours early but I am excited about this one.

Day 8:

20121107-220544.jpg
That lovely lady holding Baby E (several months back), is my mother-in-law. She is one of the strongest women I’ve ever known and she raised an amazing son. She is also my partner in cake decorating as a hobby. I am thankful for her every day, but I am exceedingly grateful to report that she is cancer free!!

She had surgery over a week ago to remove renal (kidney) cancer and today was told that, while it was malignant, it was small and totally removed. They will check everything out again in six months. So happy for that.

Snapshots of Thanksgiving: Day 7

I’m sorry I haven’t been posting any regular posts or keeping up with reading my favorite blogs. This concussion mess this week still has me battling daily headaches. I’m feeling much more like myself but still having a hard time concentrating on a computer screen.

Day 7:

20121107-140425.jpg
I am thankful for an indoor picnic today and everything it represents. We are far from wealthy (very very far), but my kids have never known true hunger. I’m also incredibly grateful that K, my picky eater, was willingly munching on grapes, mandarin oranges, and bananas with his picnic lunch. He has come so far with food in the past few months. I’m also glad to have the opportunity to give my children experiences rather than things.

I hope all my blog friends are well and I hope to catch up on everything soon!

Snapshots of Thanksgiving- Day 6

Day 6:

20121106-161409.jpg
I am so thankful for this little cookie monster. She is spunky, sweet, tough, and always happy. She keeps us (especially K) on our toes. She is talking so much now! (“Shoes”, “Tank-oo”, “cookies”)

Snapshots of Thanksgiving- Day 5

I apologize in advance if anything today doesn’t make sense. I’m still bouncing back from a mild concussion. At the grocery store last night K dropped something on the ground. I bent down to pick it up and knocked the tar out of my head on the way back up. (Lamest wound story ever…) The clerk kept asking me if I was ok. I though I was until nausea and dizziness set in big time. I’m mostly better today. I still have a headache and a fuzziness.

Day 5:

I am so thankful for this little boy. He has turned my world upside down in the best way. Being a mom is the best, most challenging adventure I’ve ever had.

Snapshots of Thankfulness- Day 4

I will preface this snapshot with the story of our night…

Last night’s “Fall back” time change was not kind to us.

I used to look on this time change fondly. I remember looking forward to the extra hour of sleep. Not so much anymore. Time change now means trying to adjust the sleep schedules of little people.

We kept them up late with a Wiggles DVD in hopes they would sleep past 5am this morning. Instead, we got kids that were up and down all night. E is napping and K is pretending to be Buzz Lightyear.

We decided to let E sleep and not unleash a hyper, loopy Buzz Lightyear on our church family.

Day 4:

This is Andy reading Bible stories to K this morning. I am so thankful for this wonderful man. God has blessed me richly. He has been my best friend for 9 and a half years and my husband for almost 5. He was worth waiting for and I love watching him grow as a man of God and father.

Day 3-

20121103-081049.jpg

I am so thankful that our friends invited us to go to an archery range last night! What a fun date. I hadn’t shot a bow since my days as a camp counselor in college. I actually hit a few bulls-eyes.

My mom was gracious enough to watch the kids for us. K poured baby oil over E’s head in the bath (the kiddos are super soft today) and E bit K’s nose when he wouldn’t give her a kiss.

Day 2-

20121102-165345.jpg

I am beyond thankful for that beautiful lady holding my squirmy Buzz Lightyear impersonator. That is my mom. She loved me through my colicky infancy, stubborn childhood, and awkward adolescent years. (She cursed me to have kids just like me, but she still loved me.) She is a great mom to me and Nonna to my children. I am so blessed to have this amazing woman in my life!
